Discover the Deering Estate with general admission, granting you access to one of Miami’s most treasured historic and ecological sites along the edge of Biscayne Bay. This self-guided experience is ideal for history enthusiasts, families, and nature lovers seeking a blend of heritage and natural beauty. Begin your visit at the main gate on 72nd Avenue, where you’ll be welcomed into a landmark designated as both a National Register of Historic Places site and one of Miami-Dade County’s select Heritage Parks.
Your exploration starts with the Historic House Museum located within Richmond Cottage. Here, you’ll learn about Charles Deering, the estate’s original owner, and discover how the property connects to South Florida’s Indigenous cultures. Exhibits and displays bring the estate’s history to life, illuminating its role in shaping Miami and the surrounding region.
Venture outdoors to traverse the estate’s extensive nature trails at your own pace. The Mangrove Boardwalk offers a peaceful walk through a unique ecosystem, where you can observe native plants and spot local wildlife. The serene setting provides a natural retreat, allowing you to take in the sights and sounds of the preserve.
As your day continues, relax beneath the shade of Royal Palms overlooking Biscayne Bay. This open space is perfect for a picnic, where you can enjoy the gentle breeze and scenic views. The tranquil atmosphere invites you to linger, take photographs, or simply unwind in a setting that marries Miami’s natural and cultural heritage.
Admission includes access to the daily guided Nature Preserve Tour (available October through May at 12:30 pm) and the guided Museum Tour of Richmond Cottage at 11:30 am. You’re also free to explore the Mangrove Boardwalk on your own. Please note that the Stone House is currently closed for restoration, but all other areas of the estate remain open.
Set within the protected Biscayne Bay Aquatic Preserve, the Deering Estate features historic architecture, lush landscapes, and a remarkable variety of flora and fauna. Its boardwalk and trails provide a rare glimpse into Miami’s original natural environment, a contrast to the city’s urban pace. The estate’s waterfront and green spaces create a peaceful oasis for visitors.
